Friday is set to be a huge day for Irish sport. Not only do we have Rob Heffernan and Mark English fighting for medals, but also Feidhlim Kelly and Cathal Dennehy will be chasing Ireland's first 1-2 in championship history, as they enter the 800m media race as the big favourites for gold and silver. Stay tuned.

I annoyingly booked my flight home for Sunday evening after the athletics so will miss whatever mad session there is on the last night. Will just have to make up for it tomorrow evening. Fab Friday with Rob, the media race and English. Hopefully lots to celebrate.

Gold and Silver to Ireland as Feidhlim Kelly (1:55.59) defeats Cathal Dennehy (1:57.38). I ran pretty poorly (2:19.70) to come second in my race. Haven't got official overall standings yet but I think I may have squeezed into the top 10 of the 72. Media domination for Ireland. They even played Amhran na bhfiann. More to follow.

One of the funniest parts of last week in Zurich. A random British athletics fan who made the admirable effort to learn the national anthems of multiple countries, and sang proudly during the medal ceremonies. The athletes make the headlines, and rightfully so, but it's the little things which can make one championship distinctive from the others.
