I am taking a group trip soon that will end with 2 days in Dubrovnik and I am not flying home for another 4 days. Part of me thinks I will want to chill out for aday or two in Dubrovnik bu having already spent a day or two there with the group, I think 4 days might be a bit much.

Are there many day trips to be done from Dubrovnik? I know there are island trips etc. but I am trying to decide do I stay in Dubrovnik the whole time or travel somewhere else and just come back for the flight. If it helps, I am more interested in beautiful scenery and buildings and culture than in any kind of activity type things. Thanks :)

You will see Dubrovnik in a day, but its a nice play to chill out in. The beach is a stoney beach. The City walls walk is worth doing.

You can book a lot of the tours in the Atlas office in Dubrovnik
http://www.atlas-croatia.com/type/excursions/ (dubrovnik is at the bottom)

A couple of years ago I did the 3 island tour, and the Montenegro Blue tour and both were really good.

Not long back from Dubrovnik. Definitely take a boat trip to the Elaphiti Island of Lopud, it's beautiful with sandy beaches!! Cavtat is only a short trip away too. For longer day trips and up to three hours in the car each way, I also took a road trip to Montenegro and visited both the medieval town of Kotor and the busier town of Budva... The scenery en route was breathtaking! Enjoy!

Second the day trip to Montenegro, we had a great time. And the views are amazing.

+1 for montenegro, the bay of kotor is amazing.

we did a trip to mostar in bosnia too, there is a really famous bridge there and the old city is lovely. really fascinating to see buildings still with bullet holes from the war. we drove there along the coast but came back the inland route, it was a great drive. never knew that bosnia & herezgovina had a territory in it called sprska which is the serbian part of the country

+ 2 for Montenegro. Stunning scenery and there is a climb up some mental road called the 40 Serpentines - not sure how many but a lot of dodgy hairpin bends - with stunning views. Lovely alpine valley at the top. Spin back down with beautiful views of Sveti Stefan(sp?), a beautiful island.

Really enjoyable day trip. Roads a bit dodgy so perhaps bus, not car.

Thanks everyone. The trip I am taking before arriving to Dubrovnik includes a stop off in Mostar on the way so I have that covered. Maybe I'll go back depending on how much time we spend there. Montenegro will have to go on the list now after all the recommendations!

You will love Mostar. We spent a couple of days there.
As for Dubrovnik you need at least two full days to explore and appreciate it fully.
If you have time definitley take a cruise around the Elafiti Islands and try to get to Korcula-it's gorgeous!
To be honest I think Montenegro is worthy of a totally seperate trip.

I went rafting in Montenegro, great views. I spent a few days also on Myjet island(not sure of spelling). Enjoyed this more than Dubrovnik, nice and relaxed there.
