Windows 8 - help needed

Ok so I bought a new laptop which was meant to come with Windows 8 Pro preinstalled but turned it on and it comes with Windows 7 Pro reinstalled.

It came with a disc for Windows 8 Pro with says 'This system is preinstalled with Windows 7 Pro software and also comes with a license and media for Windows 8 Pro software. You may only use one version of the Windows software at a time. Switching between versions will require you to uninstall one version and install the other version'.

I would try using the disc for Windows 8 Pro only the new laptop doesn't have an optical drive.

How do I go about switching - Amazon didn't indicate this at purchase. I thought it would Windows 8 Pro when I turned the damn thing on.

You shouldn't have to uninstall windows 7.

When you run the Windows 8 installer it should give you an upgrade option.

However my recommendation would be to put the windows 8 disc on a shelf and let it gather dust.
Windows 7 is better.

I bought a laptop last year that came with Windows 8 and I have been using it for a year and really liked it and got used to it. The laptop developed a major fault and I was offered a refund, bought a new one and am now landed back with Windows 7 so I'd much rather have Windows 8.

How do I run the Windows 8 Installer. Sorry I am brutal...If you could literally spell the steps out for me I would really appreciate it.

As someone else has already said you first need to copy the contents of the DVD onto a USB drive.

Someone you know has a laptop or PC with one.

i have to agree with keeping W7,
however if you have a product key you should be able to download and install from Microsoft.

Also maybe worth contacting Microsoft customer support , if you get the right operator they can be quite helpful.

That didn't work, my fault. The product key isn't printed on the disc. The discs say Windows 8 Recovery Media for Windows 8 Products. Licensed for use with an ASUS PC only.

I definitely don't know anyone with an Asus laptop.

I tried that but they said to contact the manufacturer. Or they would send a replacement. Asked them did the replacement have Windows 8 and they said it would take 48 hours to find out. Aahhh.

ring Microsoft , maybe then can give you the product code? there will be one on the back of your laptop , call them and ask them to verify it
