Has it lost its lustre in recent years with Tullow making all the running?
To be honest ,always found ewes there either too dear or, if making anything under an exorbinate price, not being sold.
That said usually a nice run of sheep there most years.

    its still holding its own
ders no difference between borris and tullow now
numers would be down in both places
good quality ewe lambs i n both places also
expensive sheep, but the quality is there in spades:)

gave up going to the sales in borris , overpriced for what they are and found the sheep fierce flighty and difficult to handle

Expensive alright, hoggets were a rob in Tullow last Wednesday.People must see no correlation between what lambs are this year and what they are prepared to pay for replacements.

Also think a lot of sheep sold in breeding sales are now a Texel/Suffolk cross instead of a Cheviot/Suffolk cross.

Anybody farming in a viable manner commercially will steer clear of these sales. They are very expensive sheep for low output. Granted they are great big hoggets, it does not make financial sense to buy them.

Would you rather I bring my hoggetts somewhere else and get less for them,
The same can be said for ram sales and cattle sales throughout de country
I only bring my stock to de best sale A.D. de most suitable one
Borris sale is 51old years people are coming back
We're only trying to make a living
It's not up to me what people pay for my stock
IM out to get as much as I can, but ders no gun to peoples head
IM a seller, it's up to buyers what they do

Fair play to you for producing quality stock. They are great sheep to look at. I'm just saying from a commercial producers point of view who is also trying to make a living from sheep, it is uneconomical to buy hoggets for 200 -230 euro when lambs are making 90- 100 euro in the factory and there are other more prolific breeds out there. I used to spend big money on good big Suffolk x hoggets. They looked good in the field but I switched to maternal breeds and now my sheep are more profitable.

my original post was to tell people de sale is on
we,re not telling people der going to have all doubles and tribles, nor can
we control de cost of lamb
all i can do is produce my hoggett to the best of my ability
people can pick and choose what breeds they want and how much der gonna pay
der isnt one super breed that i know of
im not a fan of scotches but im not gonna come on here and tell people to steer clear of the sales of scotches
i make no promises to anybody on sale day only breedig and quality
i just want to make people aware of de sale
ders enough scrap in de country which we dont have down here
    de
sheep might be expensive. but i have no control over that dats down to the buyers who come back year after year.
dont shoot down de sale because you think they are exp, and de price of lamb is poor

if anybody wants to come down thur , your more than welcome
and you can keep your mon in your pocket too

If people are willing to pay big money for stock then thats the value of the stock. and when people return obviously they think the stock is worth what they paid previously

Often at Ram sales I'd have a few picked out only to see the bids flyin in too rich for my pocket so I have to have go back out and see what lesser beasts are coming in.

been there and done that also, as I said IMO the "Borris" ewe is over rated and over priced

but fair to OP for producing such stock & attaining the high prices

but I'll decline your invitation and spare the diesel for hitting Ballinrobe in a couple of weeks time.
