Postage question

I am going to post a small box that contains a miniature bottle of alcohol, 5 cl. I know from past experience the person at the post office will ask for the contents and value of the item. I actually don't know the value, does it matter if i make one up? Will it increase my postage cost?

Are you registering or just standard post? If standard then it doesn't really matter. Tell them its a small gift valued at a fiver. If registered then put your best guess value on it.

if it's within Ireland, you're fine, they don't give a toss about what you're sending.
if it's going abroad you have to declare contents, and they won't allow it because it's a liquid which is prohibited, and I'm sure there's rules about transportation of alcohol too.
