Hi all I have a ford transit that just cut out and wouldn't start today so brought it to a mechanic, he put it in the computer and the injector pump is goosed he says it can cost 1k plus to get it reconditioned and recoded and then labour on top of that price? I rang around and found a garage that will "fix" my injector pump and recode for 500 in a matter of a couple of hours but I'm a bit nervous about handing over 500 euro and it may not be fixed at all? The van is a 04 so it wouldn't be worth putting in 1k + as the mechanic told me it wouldn't be worth it.any help or advice would be great?

Does that €500 include removing and refitting of the pump?

Apparently ya? Can you fix it without taking it out?what he said was the cheapest it will be is 450 and the dearest he has seem it go is 575.suppose I'm worried it will be a half arsed job that will give trouble down the line.

most garages send injector pumps and injectors themselves away to specialists to be reconditioned (fixed) even main dealers send them away they dont touch them .the 500 euro job is most likely a pump from a breakers fitted I'd say and is probably the route I'd take for an 04 plus you'll have it back quicker and $500 in your back pocket

The last reconditioned Transit pump we got cost €600 plus VAT and then the owner had to pay for removal and refitting on top of that so €500 all in sounds too good to be true in my opinion.

By the way I am assuming this is a TDDI Transit and not a TDCI? Because the TDCI pumps are much cheaper to repair.

It's the duratorq engine old model not sure about the tddi or tdci?I never went into detail about model of van only the year over the phone with this guy and he has a couple of fellas that come from Dublin to do this job as there is another transit in for the same problem(that's how I found out about him)so they will do both in the same day. They give 12 month guarantee with it but not too sure is that much good if it does break down.if it is a replacement pump how can they guess by the year or is there a quick fix solution by computer that can be done that's only going to last a while??

Umm, yeah. The last transit that crapped its pump(an 01 that I loved driving) I left in to an indy who pronounced that the pump was gone(I kinda knew that..)and wasn't worth fixing, "they never are".... He offered me €500 scrap value for it and I took that route. DOH! Passed the F*****g c**t driving it two days later, going like a clock....

That was a good few years back and I'm older, wiser and not friends with a local indy mechanic anymore. There's a cheap enough fix for them and it works, I'd go for the €500 repair.
