Macbook not charging

I have a Macbook, which I bought in 2008. It's had it's tough times but it does the job. Anyway, the battery discharged the whole way and now it won't charge at all. When I plug in the mag safe the light stays green and the AC icon remains at the top of the screen.

I tried the trick of removing the battery, holding down power button for 5 seconds, etc....no joy.

The thing is this happened before a couple of years ago and I can't think of how I got it back working, but it is.

    Anyway, any suggestions?

    Cheers
