Sound on iPad coming and going randomly

Hi my iPad is just over a year and a half old. I could be watching Netflix, or Skype-ing, and all of a sudden, the sound just turns off. Sometimes it comes back, other times the sound could be gone for days. I have tried resetting etc. Any ideas? Thanks
