Is there such thing as insuring my flight costs in the eventuality I dont go on my trip? I'm booking a flight to the phillipines for october and I have found a decent price. However there is a possibility that I may not be able to go and want to have some sort of guarantee I could get my money back? Can flight costs be insured?

    Thanks

Of course, that is travel insurance. However, no insurance will cover you for deciding not go, it can only cover you for being unable to go for a serious reason.

that'd be called travel insurance, but it only covers not being able to go for reasons like ill health or a family death, but it doesnt cover indecisiveness or changing your mind or failing an exam and having to repeat or having an unagreeable boss who wont let you off work etc. etc. etc.

What you may be looking for is a flexi flight rate that you can cancel for free or small fee, but that'd be dearer than a normal advance booked non cancellable rate

I understand general travel insurances, what I wanted to know was specific to a change of mind when the time came. I guess I cannot cover myself for simply a change of mind. I was hoping maybe some sort of insurances out there could have covered me.

The airline should offer a number of different prices for the same flight. The most flexible, probably a more expensive Business Class option, might allow cancellation/refund for a fee. You'll pay through the nose for it though.

Business or Flex fare with an Airline.

Companies don't insure feelings or choices.
