Bulbs for NCT

    Hi,

Have my NCT coming up. My car has blue bulbs in the front (don't know if there's a more correct term for them), these weren't an issue for previous NCTs but I believe they will be now.

My query is do I need to change all bulbs in the front or just certain ones?

    E.g. are fogs tested?

    Thanks.

The headlamp light must be yellow or white to pass the NCT. There are some bulbs that have a blue coating that makes he headlamp reflectors look blue when the lights are off, but actually emit white light when the lights are on (e.g. Osram Cool Blue) and these should be OK for the NCT. If the bulbs emit blue light when on though they will need to be changed.

Fog lamps must be positioned correctly and mounted securely with a switch that operates independently of the side lights, and they must also be yellow or white. If they are simply not working though, for example because the bulbs have blown, that is not a fail.

Great thanks, it's a white light they emit so might be fine.

I did hear from a mechanic that head lights are sometimes at the whim of the tester. I have a Jap Import and twice now, I have failed on head lights, despite getting them sorted by a dealer. I think I'd be angry as hell if certain tests were down to the tester. You pay your money to put up with this nonsense and still there's some flake who doesn't follow the rules. We have to, why don't they?!?! It's just frustrating too as often the testers are just too pissed off to answer a question in a straight manner. If the job pisses them off, get another one. Sorry Rant over. lol
