Very large Jellyfish on the beach at Laytown

    huge great big thing, never seen one that size on an irish beach before.

    had to take the pic from the car as i'm on crutches with a boot on, so couldn't get any closer or to give it some perspective (although you can see the size of it from the shells near it), but it was bigger than a decent sized xmas turkey! :eek:

    from a distance i thought it was a white bin bag full of rubbish that someone had left on the beach, wasn't until we got closer i realised what it was. there were a lot of smaller (up to dinner plate sized) ones dotted around as well, but that one was a monster!

    Seem to remember seeing that size and larger on Dollymount beach every time we'd visit as a kid in the 80's.

    Got a link to the jellyfish.ie site on my Facebook yesterday : it looks like a barrel jellyfish, they can grow up to 1m and do not sting, check it out, great page http://www.jellyfish.ie/irish_sea_jellyfish.asp
