Hi all, just looking for some advice please. So my 05 Astra engine has gone kaput (only had it a month) I have sourced a reconditioned engine for €850 and to take out old engine and fit new is €350 so all together €1,200.
Also included in this price is a new timing chain etc....

    So my questions are-
    1. Is this a good price?
    2. Is it worth doing this work?
    3. What problems can arise from changing a car engine?

Thats a bargain to be honest.
Did you pay much for the car?

    I paid €2,400
Hope the new engine works out don't want to be down all that money

if someone is removing old engine, fitting new chain to new engine and refitting new engine to car for €350 your on a winner / or... he aint got a clue what he's doing.

    one or the other.

Let's hope I'm on to a winner, the same guy I'm buying the reconditioned engine, is fitting the engine, this is what he does so I'm hoping he knows what he is at lol

Also the price is usually €550 to take out the old engine and put in new, but because he will be taking the old engine the price is €350, I guess he will take the old engine and recondition that and this is how he can do a good price

Do you think he normally / usually, just puts the old engine in the boot of other customers cars? , to dispose of as they wish?

Just had my engine replaced today. The engine was been lifted out of my car after 40 mins! The job from start to finish was 2 hours, after 2 hours I was driving my car again!
This mechanic is amazing at what he does!
    Came to my house
    Removed the engine
    Fitted new reconditioned engine
New timing chain, water pump etc....
    Filled with oil etc....
    All for €1200
And a warranty on the engine

Hi, what finished the engine? Good luck with the new one.

An oil leak which led to no oil and by the time I realised, fixed the leak, the engine had low oil pressure and the oil light was on, done internal damage to the engine also
