Got a puncture on Saturday. A nail about 2 inches went straight through the tyre and had pretty much hidden itself in the tube.

Put a new tube in and a park tools boot inside the tyre which got me the 10k home no bother.

The inside of the tyre looks fine but I'm just wondering as the hole is quiet big am I asking for trouble to keep using the tyre and should it be replaced asap?

    Cheers

You need a new bike, and don't let anyone tell you any different..

Similar thing happened to me before and I tried to continue using the tyre as it was relatively new but it started to puncture with alarming regularity so I binned it. My advice - bin it.

Yes, bin it, you might get away with it for awhile but in the long run it will be hassle. Is that a 23 or 25?

    What make of tyre?
My continental tyres come with what looks like a hole like your pic.

You could always try super glue in the hole and see how it goes. Failing that you will need to buy a new bike as you get two tubes and tyres when you do.

Sell it cheap as a tyre people can use on a turbo.

Tried this last year. Got a massive blowout 40km from home. Had to call the seany "team car" for rescue. The mrs was less than impressed.

Bin it and get a new one. Not worth the risk.

    Spare tube?

Do whatever you think, if i had just got a new set of tyres and got a dirty sharp hole like that id just stick a patch on it. if it was racing tyres I might be abit more concerned but even so, imho, my way will work. Even go completly crazy and try it and if it dosnt work, then get a new tyre.

Spare tube is useless when the tyre is blown wide open lol ðŸ˜

I don't mind going crazy and trying it, and it's already patched with a boot. However I'm less eager to try it if there's a good chance it'll blow out on a descent in the Wicklow mountains.

I'll pick up a new tyre and keep this then for turbo/back up. Not really worth the risk of it going at the wrong moment and leading to a bad crash.

    Cheers folks.
