A friend needs a small day procedure done in hospital but may be out of work for at least a week. She wont get paid from work but has some holidays left to take later in the year. Will she claim Social Welfare or just use the holidays. Which would work out better financially?

That would be very hard to say without you having to post a lot of personal info. But probably she would be better off using her holidays.

No illness benefit for the first six days anyway so better off on holidays.
