Orphan and want to move

    Hi guys,

I'm wondering of the state will give me my own one bedroom apartment or flat somewhere. I grew up an orphan and currently live with a family member whom I don't get along with. I do not work to private rent as I'm currently in college and find it really difficult to get a job. I think the state should supply me with my own accommodation maybe a council property, if it wasn't for this family member I would have absolutely nowhere else to live or stay and I really cannot live here much longer. Surely there must be some sort of program that lets people in this situation have a home to live in. I know it could be worse and I could be on the street but i feel eventually it may lead to this so Id like to get it sorted if possible now.

MODS sorry if this is in the wrong thread feel free to put it somewhere more relevent.

    Cheers

You can apply to go on the waiting list for a council house, but as a young single person you'll be very low priority and YEARS waiting.

If you can afford to move out, then get a house share with some like-minded people. Even then, you won't get Rent Allowance straight away, as you have to prove you rented privately for six months before you can apply.

Or - If you can, try to suck it up a while longer whilst you get some money together to move out.

Tough, I know, but those are the only viable options.

Hope it works out for you.

You are an adult, your family history is no longer relevant. You are the same as any young adult. The state has no extra responsibilities towards you. No matter what you think, it doesn't change that I'm afraid.

Are you entitled to the college grant. It's not a lot but it will help

It can be difficult to get a job but there are plenty of students working flat out all summer saving and weekends once college restarts

You can work in a shop, collect glasses in a nightclub, serve in a restaurant, something like that. Put the money towards a room in a shared house

Even if you got a council property and you are years down the list it still involves rent and bills.

Your main priority is step up that job hunt, good luck
