    Hi All,

The wife was driving my Alfa 159 this morning and it started to become more and more difficult to get it into gear, eventually she couldn't get it into gear.Got the AA,he reckons its the clutch ( could smell the clutch smell too )got it home and will go to the garage tomorrow.

Anyone have an idea of what cost I'm looking at here ? I presume they have to take the engine out to change the clutch ?

    Thanks

    Where are you located.
Ti autos have a good rep in the Alfa community, but I've used don baker out in Enfield and found him excellent. I'd go to him for the bigger jobs as he's cheaper but certainly knows his stuff. He also used to race many an Alfa back in the day.

If you're down In the south east, there's a decent Alfa chap just outside Wexford. Again I wouldn't have any problem letting him work on any of my alfas.

Cost wise A new clutch for a 159 1.9 works out at 129 pounds from shop4parts.
A replacement dmf from them is 245 pounds.
So around 400 pounds for the parts (as it's a uk supplier) and I'd say 3-400 euro for the labour as it'd be a gearbox off job.

As above, it depends on where you are in the country. If not too far from the east chat to Don Baker and see what he quotes you. He works exclusively on Alfas. South east, there's another fella in Wexford, does pretty good work, mostly on Alfas too. I can't think of anyone in the west or north off hand

    Thanks Lads,

I'm in southside Dublin and I will have to get it towed to wherever I go with it

Forget about email, just ring them first thing tomorrow. If it is the clutch then it is advised to replace the flywheel also.

Id give Agnelli a call and see what they'd quote for the work.
Id also give Don baker a call, he's done some great work for me in the past. Id say he'd have a trailer to tow.
Likewise Ti autos, as mentioned have a decent reputation in the alfa community.

Ring them and find out quotes for the work that needs to be done.

Paschal Kennedy were an Alfa dealer when I bought my 166 from them in 2011, don't know if they still are but it's worth a punt. They looked after my car untill I bought it, plenty of unusual work was done on it some of the "specialists" wouldn't touch. Car still lives on as a result :D
