    Hiyas

Can able tell me how I access Heuston Car Park? I will be travelling from city centre down the quays to the left of the station. Have googled and looked at the Irish Rail website but can't figure out how I get to it.

If anyone can help, twill be much appreciated

Coming from city centre along the quays, drive straight through the intersection, towards the station. The lane between the station itself and the river will take you to the car park. It's easy enough.

Do I go to the left or the right of the station as I come from the quays. Sorry I know it may be easy enough but I've driven down that way to the motorway to Galway etc and never seen where the access to the car part is.

No bother. When driving from the quays, theres only 3 options at the intersection: left to the n4, right to phoenix pk, or straight to Heuston. Go straight. When you get to the station itself, theres a left to the main entrance (buses only I think), or straight. Going straight takes you along the right side of the station, by the river. In fact that means that you will be driving ALONG the river pretty much all the way to the car park.

As per Victor's view above, there are four lanes as you approach the station coming down the south quays, the two left lanes swing left taking traffic towards the N4, the right lane is right-turn only taking traffic across the bridge towards the Phoenix Park or to go right and back up the north quays. You need to be in the third lane, it's the only one marked for straight ahead. Drive straight ahead, keep the station on your left (river Liffey on the right) and you'll be heading for the car park.

As you cross the Luas tracks be careful of crossing pedestrians. I can't count how many near misses I've seen there. It really needs better indication of who has right of way - whether by zebra crossing or by traffic light.

Does anybody know whether this land immediately to the west of the Luas tracks belongs to IÉ and as such is theirs to do with as they like? Or could DCC make such alterations?

Not on the west side of the tracks. People walk out not realising that a taxi is coming through the lights at Victoria Quay.

Motorists/cyclists should (read must, legally) give the right of way to pedestrians who have started to cross the road.

The traffic lights are purely for the Luas/roadway interactions. As with other sections of road and uncontrolled junctions, pedestrians have the right to cross once they start crossing safely.

Agreed that there needs to be better clarity and really no junction with traffic lights for cars should be left without some type of controlled pedestrian crossing -- motorists usually don't know that there's no pedestrian lights and even if they do know that there's no lights they think their green light is a right of way (it's not and it never is).

Traffic lights do not give a right of way to anybody at any time.

I am not sure what you are talking about here.

There are traffic lights at the Luas lines...both sides

yes, fair enough...but there are lights to indicate that it is a road with traffic

The traffic lights have nothing to do with the unsignaled pedestrian crossing point.

The traffic lights are only for trams-road traffic interactions. There are no pedestrian lights.

I'm not sure what that means. It's fairly clear from the road and the road markings that it's a road with traffic.

I understand that there is no pedestrian crossing but the portrayal then that they have to be headless lemmings is a bit ott to me.

pedestrians can see if road traffic has a red light and thus they might cross....they can also see if traffic is approaching before crossing

it is presumably only red when a tram is there
I'm not sure what that means. It's fairly clear from the road and the road markings that it's a road with traffic.

I was responding to the view that people "might walk out" not realising traffic was approaching

I would think it was clearly a road and like any other they should look around before crossing

    Great post OP :)

I'd like to ask an alternative question, or questions if I may. I'll be coming in from the N4, to park at Heuston. Can I just drive around and then down to the left to the car park?
And then for return journey, how do I get from the car park to (ultimately) the N4 - do I have to go all the way up the quays on the north side and then cross over and back down to Heuston keeping to one of the two left hand lanes?

    Thanks :)

    Yes to the first part

Going out there are two options

Up north quays and cross at first bridge

    Or

Go over bridge and out parkgate street and then take left up south circular to N4

Thanks all for your contributions and directions. Much appreciated. It seems to have generated a bit of discussion!

Thanks a mill - which option is easier, I'm thinking up the quays and cross the river at the first bridge?
