Could be as simple as an adjustment to the handbrake cable. €50 most likely a lot less.

NCT is a complete joke. The guy next door's car failed on a ball joint. He maintained there was nothing wrong with it. Waited a few days and took it back and guess what, it passed. How can that be a fair system ?

I think it means your handbrake cable
needs adjusting (tightning) which is a simple job - cost approx 20 euro at an independent garage.

If your car didn't have to go for an NCT would you have gotten it serviced and checked for wear & tear as well as an inspection in a garage or done it yourself?

If it was a mOney making racket there are a hundred and one ways that the operators could make a lot more out of it... Including not doing tests on sat/Sunday .. And using the backlog to push for more centers for which they'd have to up the price to "recoup" their investment...
The systems not perfect, but you hear people complaining that they failed 'cos a bulb was blown, fix it so... And my local centre will usually tell you to go fix it and bring it back to get the cert...

At 75% imbalance I doubt its hand brake cable

its more likely worn or contaminated shoes

arent you lucky that the nct centre have the equipment to test for this as very few garages would have.

I had a similar failure. My rear calliper had seized and I had to get a new calliper. All in parts plus labour €300.

The NCT slagging stops here. I'm getting real tired of threads on failures getting clogged up with "money racket", "scam", "my neighbour" blah.
If you want to rant against NCT, fine. Just keep it in a separate thread and don't drag this one off-topic.
