was actually about to start a thread for that same reason, also looking to join irish classes tho my question was about prices, did you happen to find a price tag?

last year one of the lads signed up for german and I think it was either 40 or 60 euro. and if you attend over 80% of the classes you get that back at the end of the year... dont quote me on this though.

Yep, I started doing them last year (although I didn't finish - I just found I didn't have enough time to keep up wth it).

I had to pay... I think it was €50, which I would have gotten back if I'd attended 80%+ of the classes. I thought they were REALLY good. Mine were 3 hours in the evening once a week, I think mine was a Monday night.

Mine had about 8 people in the class. I probably signed up for a higher 'level' than I was able for - I think it was Level B1 I did. I have Leaving Cert A1 Higher Level Irish, but that's from 2009 so I was SO rusty. :/ The first couple of classes were terrifying, because everyone else had what seemed like fluent Irish, and the classes were very conversational... I felt seriously throw in the deep end! But I found I improved SO quickly, by the 5th or 6th week I was chatting away confidently (probably with tons and tons of errors!) with everyone else as Gaeilge during the breaks.

The tutor we had was deadly as well, really put you at ease.

I'd recommend it to anyone who thinks they'll have the time :) it IS time-consuming (there's homework, and I did loads of independent study because I wanted to catch up with everyone's elses level) but it's well worth it.

And apart from the €50 deposit, there's no onus on you to continue.. if you find it's not for you, you can just stop going anytime and not bother sitting the exams.

I didn't realize the evening courses were tied into a language for students programme! jaysus that's fairly amazing to get basically a free language course.

tho unfortunately for me, mondays my only free evening, and that's the night of the highest level irish

I would love to do one of those language classes, but my last bus home is 6.

when college starts back. 22nd onwards. i think its a first come first serve basis.. when on moodle homepage under the useful links there is a link for the language centre.. thats how you enrol i think.

this link gives a bit of info aswell regarding class levels www.nuim.ie/language-centre/languages-all-students
