This is the first of three charter revisions. It is more of an advisory nature than a regulatory nature. I'm posting it here for a couple days in case there's any questions or suggestions, then we'll put it into the charter.

    Links to Image Hosting sites

You can inadvertently reveal much more information about yourself than you might realise by posting links to Image Hosting sites.
The name of the account holder on a third-party image hosting site may be available to anyone following the link.
It's also possible that the entire catalogue of images hosted there would be fully available for inspection.
The name given may also be used to form part of the URL address of the image so we would encourage you to use a pseudonym or username.

It's probably best, for your own privacy, to host images anonymously on a third-party site that allows it.
Examples of such sites would be TinyPic, Anony, PostImage, AnonImg, Imgur, wthax and imagecross.

It is possible to have images attached to your posts ('Post Reply' button, not 'Quick Reply', and scroll down to 'Manage Attachments').
Alternatively, if you have a Subscriber account, create an album under your account here ('Control Panel' >> 'Pictures & Albums') and link to them using the 'Picture URL' supplied or use the also supplied 'BB code' to insert them into the post.

Resizing images for display in thread:

Very large image files in threads can cause issues by 'breaking' browser windows or by consuming excessive bandwidth.
For everyone's sake, it's best to keep images to around 800-1000 pixels on their longest side, and file size to 150-200 KB or so.

There are many online image resizing services which will make your images more suited for display in thread:
    https://www.google.ie/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=free+online+image+resizer&safe=on
There's plenty of free software for doing it on your own computer too:

Just noticed the last two links don't work. That'll be fixed when it's put into the charter. FIXED!

Also, the photobucket site may not be anonymous either. Again, that'll be sorted for the final version.

Thanks for this thread although I still think boards.ie should develop a simple click 1-2-3 and your photo is automatically downsized and displayed.

Do you need to be a paid subscriber to have this option in your control panel? It's not available on my control panel (attached).

You may suggest that to admin. There's no such facility on any of the vBulletin forums that I'm on so it would almost certainly be a case of developing it.

Just found out... Yes, you do, or be a moderator.

You may want to suggest that as a feature suggestion in the Site Development forum. It's certainly a nice idea.

Zr105, you are correct in what you say. The 'paid subscriber' bit refers to having 'Pictures & Albums' on your control panel listing so you can upload pictures to albums you've created and use them from there.

Ok folks, thanks for your comments. The charter is now updated. This thread will be unstickied and left to drift.

There will be a new revision in short to glance over.
