Replacement pump for solar water heating system

    hi Everyone,
    I need a bit of advice with regard to a replacement pump.

    I have a solar heated water system, a closed loop with panels on the roof leading via a pump operated by a controller, to a loop in the hot water cylinder.
    The pump failed recently and I spoke to a few local plumbers about replacing it.

    At the moment it looks like a conventional central heating system pump in line, but a couple of the plumbers said it would need to be replaced with a specialised unit because of the operating temperature of the glycol in the loop.

    Is this correct, as there's quite a difference in price between a standard pump and a 'specialised' one?

    My solar system is fitted with a Wilo ST 25/6-3 Circ Pump, I don't know how "special" it is, if any, it can deal with a 1:1 ratio of glycol/water and its max operating temperature is 110C. I would suggest that you read the label on your existing pump and take it from there.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    It didn't occur to me immediately to check the pump specs but I have a Wilo 15/6 3-P which looks pretty much the same - designed for water or glycol/water mixture up to 110 C. Looks like a pretty standard pump.

    Sometimes just asking the question spurs you on to the answer!
