I turned off the car but left the key in the ignition when i was on the phone, got out locked the car, came back, went to start it and not a click out of it, looks like the battery is dead, if i left it for a few hours would it recharge itself?

    How?

You need to get the engine running to charge the battery. Push/jump and drive is best.

How old is battery? Try jumping, drive around for 30 mins and keep an eye on it.

Only if Nikola Tesla hadn't been murdered.
