New FB event or page?

Hi, I am relatively inexperienced with Facebook but I need to create a new page to highlight a new 10k my small town is organising. I have looked at other FB pages to get an idea on how to do thus.

Would people recommend an "event" or a "page" or some other FB entry type? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? I suppose I want people to like the page rather than accept friends to the page.

If you set it up as an event from your personal profile, then
    • You will have to "out" yourself as the organiser or marketing person - people will be able to see that it's your event.
    • No one else can administer it, only you.
    • Every update that you send will be linked to this one event - there's no easy way to transfer people to next year's events.

    A better idea is to
    • Set up a Page for the organisation that's administering the event
    • Invite people to Like that Page
    • Make a few people from the committee (etc) into Administrators for the page.
    • Set up the event while acting as the Page.

Now, getting people to Like a page can take a while (esp if it has a boring name like "Ballywhatever Race Committee") - but you can do things like:
    • Get everyone on the committee to Like the page and to invite their friends to Like it.
    • While you are logged in as the Page, comment and post funny/cool pictures on other Pages's walls / posts (I think you need to have Liked them first to be able to do this). This gets you exposure, and some people will Like you based on that.

    I have another question.
I created a new email and Facebook user to act as the admin for my page/event. Lets say I called that user "Mayo 10k Race".

Then I created a Page called "Mayo 10k Road Race" and put some details of the road race.

Now I really want people to like the Page but I am afraid they will do a find and get the User and start trying to "friend" the admin rather than like the event?

What have I done wrong here? I can change the User once so I could call it "Mayo 10k ADMIN" or something similar.

Also how do I invite people to like the Page if I have no Friends set up on the Admin user?

The idea is to set up the "page" be it event/business/organisation from your existing FaceBook account.
A visitor to this page does not have access back to your personal account. You can invite other people to "admin" this "page" as well and provided it has other "admins" even delete yourself.
This means a "business page" belonging to a business can be looked after by more than one employee or even an outside agency with no visitor links back to anybody's personal pages.

Firstly, use the user you have set up to make yourself and Administrator at the page.

This is because when Facebook notice that you have set up a profile for someone who's not a real person, there's a risk they will delete the account and thus you would lose access to the page.

How do I give someone a role on my Page?

You'll need to be an admin to give someone a role on your Page. If you're an admin:

Click Settings at the top of your Page.
Click Page Roles in the left column.
If the person is your Facebook friend, begin typing their name and select them from the list that appears. If the person isn't your Facebook friend, type their email address.
Click Editor to select a role from the dropdown menu.
Click Save and enter your password to confirm.
Depending on their settings, the person may receive a notification or an email when you give them a role.
