My first time playing in this event i was wondering if anyone else on here is playing and what score would you usually need to qualify for the matchplay.

Brilliant comp, what time are you out at? I think normally +7/+8 will get you through, i missed out last year, very tight course, alot of irons off tee's.

7.17 i think, yeah i played it years ago i taught it was a short course so I am happy enough using irons off the tees
I am playing off 7 so could be tight to qualify.
what time are you out at yourself

Looking forward to this, first time playing Clontarf. Had 6 over in my mind as a safe score to qualify in a JSC, I'm a member in Donabate so well used to irons off tees.

Good luck, I'll post my score (if it's respectable:)).

Out around 930, just keep it in the fairway, easier said than done, you don't need driver around there

think they re playing a funny format this year two holes are closed, the quarry hole is closed and 1 other. 78 or lower should do it to qualify

What happens to the fee we already paid then

Was the course flooded and unplayable because of the rain? Surprised it was cancelled.
In Limerick for the weekend so wasn't around for it so might now have a chance of playing. I liked Clontarf the couple of times I played it but if only 16 holes how does that work in terms of handicap adjustments and matchplay etc? Probably no reduction in entry fee either.
Massive thunder rain here yesterday afternoon in Limerick, it was biblical stuff but played Adare Manor this morning in showery conditions and course was fairly firm.

Yes flooded apparently,it started raining during the night and didn't stop, biblical is right, never seen rain like it, it's a lovely course, I'm not sure about the 16 holes, guy on the phone this morning said all 18 were in play?!

I played Clontarf last Wednesday. 3 holes are closed and won't reopen till next year most likely. For their 'major' comps they are currently playing 1,2 & 3 twice to make up the 18.

Not sure of plan, but drainage for the locals is the issue, it's a really great hole to scratch 😢

Down to play this now on Sun Aug 24th

Down to play this now on Sun Aug 24th

Played this today and man was it slow going, 5 hr round around a short par 69 course. Didn't realise it was being played in 4 balls which should never be an option in a scratch cup but not helped with only 15 holes in play and 3 repeated.
Found the greens to be in pretty poor shape which is unusual for Clontarf. Looked to have dried out excessively and with a lot of patchy areas, slow and bumpy to boot. Played OK from the tee but my short game completely deserted me resulting in a lot of three putts and poor chips. Missed three putts from inside 4 feet on the first three holes so that set the theme for the day. Ended it shooting an embarrassing 83 with a tripple bogey in the middle so no fear of qualifying.

Anyone know what the leading gross scores were in the qualifying?

Best gross on the day was from a member of 5 handicap shooting 72 (+3). Everyone on 79 and two scores on 80 qualified for the matchplay.
