Provisional licence?

    I got a provisional licence many years back, I never even had to do a test, just filled out some forms and picked it up in the Garda station.

    Is this still the case?

    No you have to the theory test, it's 40 questions I think(or at least it was when I done it in 2010) and you have to answer 36 correctly. They give you a cert when you pass and you hand that in with an eyesigt report at on of the national drivers licence centres and I think they take you're photo there. Not sure if the NDLS post your licence out or you get it on the spot though.

    My second provisional was up there about 18 months ago, am I right in thinking if I want to renew it I have took book a rest for full lisence ?

    Have you done a driving test? If so you provide them with proof of a driving test in the last two years, if not then you need to show them proof you've booked a driving test before you can get a third provsional. Also I think they only issue a one year permit if you have give proof of a test booked.
