    Well folks,

I was thinking about joining an advisory service to help me with decision making and to get the best out of my farm.

Can anyone tell me about their experiences with them, prices, different services, etc.

    Thanks

    I have experience with teagasc
it would be very negative but maybe it was my adviser
I had 2 different advisers one on verge of retirement nice man paper work was always right but always erred on the side of caution and wasn't realy progressive(times had passed him by)
second was in his late 20s loved fags and golf wanted easy life often made mistakes and was difficult to deal with
    no longer deal with teagasc
haven't heard any real good ones in this area but im sure their is but most info is now available on the net and you and only you can adapt it to your farm
i recently got a private operator to help me with some nitrates stuff it was as much to cheek over my work or a second opinion than anything else

    my 2pence
if you want it done right you have to know how to do it yourself even if someone else dose it

Local advisor here is tough man to get a hold of..he is independent. Never in his office. He only wants to fill out SFP forms I think.ill try him one more time if no luck I'll be joining teagasc!

Try the ACA ( agri consultants association), they're a private group, they've advisors all over the country. They're not cheap but I find them very good.

Ask around locally, who uses teagasc or consultant. I use both, teagasc for btap and consultant as planner and sfp forms. If you are thinking of going into GLAS afaik only planners will be doing it, not teagasc.

Thanks for the replies. Can anyone give me a rough figure as regards prices for teagasc or ACA and what you get for your money? Do they visit your farm much? I'm also a bit wary about opening the farm to be criticised even though I know it will be constructive criticism
