Failed on the NCT emissions test.

Low idle CO 0.95 vol% Above 0.30% is fail
750 RPM HC 116 ppm Above 0ppm is a fail

Its an 04 VW bora I.4 petrol, about 130 on clock

After giving it new plugs, filter and oil change, anything else I can do. I hear a bottle of diptene might work, but should I get emissions test done in garage prior to test to make sure? any help appreciated. thanks

Bottle of diptane for €10 did the job for me.
Mine were quite high on one of the readings so every NCT i do now ill put the diptane in over the coarse of the week before hand.

My sure the car is well warmed up before the arriving to the NCT centre too.

A bit of high reving should warm the cat up.

A good Italian tune up before the retest won't do it any harm either.

so the advice so far is throw more money at it hoping its right and rally the balls off it before the test....

or you could drop into a local garage as I'd suspect a small hole somewhere in the exhaust and the possibility one of your lambda sensors might be slow to respond or supplying faulty information.

Thanks had a mate put his hand over exhaust today said it sounds like a leak, will take it to advance or one of them tomorrow see where its coming from, could be the culprit alright, so appreciate that.

Also thanks to other posters got the diptane also so no harm putting some in to clean it out regardless. I only drove the car from Drumcondra up to Ballymun centre, quite leisurely, child in back seat. Maybe leave the little fella behind next week and open her up, give her some welly, gwaan ya good thing? :)
