    Hi all

Have just purchased a 2013 ford smax zetec 2L tdci in the last few months. Driving the car is good...no major problems. However I am finding that the fuel economy isn't great according to the trip computer am getting 43mpg. Is this normal from such a new motor.???

    All help is.much appreciated.

What sort of driving are you doing? If it's urban stop/start and short trips 43mpg is decent enough.

No mostly long distance main roads...very small amount of urban driving

What speed do you travel at?

Bring your speed down a touch will bring up the mpg.

Am travelling with kids all the time....always within speed limits.....For a new car I would have though mpg would be better...have a 2L tdi pass at and was getting 53+mpg from that...

    What speed?

Pass at is a much more streamlined car compared to a cmax. Speed won't affect mpg as much

Try calculating from your actual fill amount and mileage rather than from the trip counter

More importantly than the speed, what gear are you normally in?

The S-Max is also 250 kg heavier.

It's normal driving use 6th gear when I have too or can ...what am asking is there a problem or is 43 mpg average. I don't have a heavy right foot..

Am aware it's larger and a more heavy car...but would still expect better than 43 mpg from a new car.

Why just cos it's New doesn't mean it's gonna be super efficient and fast.

I went up 6 years in a van to a brand new one.. Mpg same. Power same. Looks ever so slightly different.

You bought a large chunk heavier and that's shaped like a streamlined brick. Something has to suffer.

It's not mad wrong for the type of car. It's pretty ballpark. Ford say 51ish mpg so in my head that means real life 43-46
