Lads I did the 180 hr course back in the 00's to qualify as a farmer but one of my siblings is looking into doing it now. What is required? have heard a few different stories.

One of our uncles is looking at passing on the farm (small holding). 1 of my sisters is living nearby and has always helped him out so is looking to see if she can take it on, I said it her that would need to green cert to qualify. She is teacher so doesn't need to do the full time course. What is the equivalent of the 180 course? Is there a distance course she can do and how long does it take?

Search "teagasc distance education course" on here there's a thread on it, thats possibly the only way that may suit, but will require one day a month off as far as i know which wont suit teaching as if I'm not mistaken is only something like 3epv days a year off? Application period this year has closed but i think they were still accepting late applications,

    Here's there page on it

There still accepting late applications, and be warned that it's looking like demand will out do supply

Perhaps doing it in a local Teagasc office may also be an option in this case - it is a longer one though.

All info on website. Download app pack, get level 8 degree stamped at local office and post asap would be my advice.
I sent application by registered post as soon as applications opened, fingers crossed

Got receipt for deposit is all. Places aren't confirmed until mid sept. Course will start Oct.

There's a chance course will be dusted before Dec 2015 which would suit certain yf re top up etc

Thats an option alright, but when i rang up about it last autumn all was going well, she was mad to put my name down until i asked how long it would take, "er em its September to march, er for 3years"....

Back when I did the cert in farming everything was free not including the 3 months donkey work on the host farm though. Which was done for pittance.

Part time farming here, did the 180 Hour course in early 2000's ,farming away with the oul fella but he hasn't passed it on yet officially, just wondering will 180 hour course or ' green Cert' from back in the day still suffice to cover me for tax reliefs etc on transfer?
Have 3rd level degree as well, know that course has got more time consuming etc to do so am I still covered if land was transferred in next few years, hope to get it done before I'm the big 40....few yrs away yet:)....pol fella hanging on tight!
Have lost the feckin 'cert' with my name on it for course completion but am sure Ag colleges could look up records and reissue them.
Thanks for any replies, sorry for hijacking the thread OP;)

I would be 99.9% certain that once you have the cert done that's it.
Also you will be able to get copy of the cert but youl probably have to hound them.

Did the 180 hours course over five weeks in athenry about ten years. The only thing I remember about it is going down to the pub every nite and heading into Galway on the Thursday nights:D.

Larry is correct and you will have to pay them for the privilege too!

Only looking into getting copy of completed green cert now,did it over two spells in Athenry and Clonakilty colleges,am I right in thinking that Athenry Agri College has closed?
If so who would people advise contacting to see about getting evidence of doing part of the 180 hrs there?....presume (hope) they saved records of everyone who passed out from there and transferred said records elsewhere;)
Did second spell in Clonakilty and can't recall if the cert we all got there covered the full 180 hrs or if there were two separate certs.
Have a feeling it was just one cert to cover full completion of the 'Green Cert'
    Thanks for any replies.

I had to get this before and I contacted fetac, not the ag college. As tis fetac who provided the cert... (For me anyways)

Edit : I think it cost 15euro for a reprint, but that was a good few years ago now.

Decided to have a right 'rummage' through old boxes of files in Attic at home before contacting Fetac....lo and behold came across my two certs from Athenry and Clonakilty....a happy man.
