Hey so im new to the leap card. I got one as it is meant to be cheaper but i seem to be getting charged more on my dart journey than when i was using cash. I usually pay €2.15 but i think im being charged €2.90. I say this as that is the figure which shows up on the machine as i tag off at my destination. Am i right in assuming this 2.90 is my fair? How can that be? I thought the idea was it was cheaper.

I have an annual ticket for the trains so can't comment on how they actually behave, but according to the leap card website, the figure shown when you tag off should be your remaining travel credit. Not sure why it would consistently show 2.90 though, unless you have an auto-topup set to keep you at something like €5 (if that's possible?)

It shows my remaining balance also. Maybe that figure is non-related. Id like to see what i was being charged on my journey though so if it doesnt show on the machine thats a bit crap.

Firstly have you registered your leap card? If not, do it immediately in case you lose the card and also for checking your balance.

When you tag-on the leap card takes the maximum off for the journey you might make and then credits you back if you don't use the maximum so perhaps you're noticing the figure when you tag-on rather than tag-off or perhaps you've been underpaying up to now?

Either way if you register you'll find out exactly how much you've been charged for each journey.

When you tag on it will deduct €4.60
The tag off is refunding €2.90
So your fare is €1.70 which is correct for a cash equivalent of €2.15
