LG M227WDP Saorview compatible?

    Hi all,

I have this TV in a bedroom and am currently using a skybox with it. I intend on ditching sky and getting a freesat box + using an aerial to pickup saorview directly into the back of the tv. I've plugged in a small aerial and I can hear the Irish channels but I get no picture at all, just a black screen:confused:
I know this is a long-shot but does anyone have the same TV and does it pickup saorview channels with an aerial plugged into it?

I did find this thread on the TV but it doesn't definitively answer my question - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056300812

Thanks in advance for all feedback :D

Audio with no video would indicated a non Saorview compatible TV.

Saorview uses MPEG-4 video compression while Freeview in the UK use the older MPEG-2 standard. An MPEG-2 only TV won't display a Saorview picture.

    How old is the TV?

I bought the TV in 2009 so its 5 years old.

MPEG4 tuner mentioned at the top of the page here...
Freeview Built in - mentioned at the bottom of the page here...

I had a look through the manual online but there is no mention of an MPEG4 tuner:confused:

I'll try messing about again with an aerial at the weekend and see how I get on. Tbh the TV is old now so I may just buy a new Saorview enabled TV.

Try changing the setup country to France, that country had been using MPEG-4 for a number of years before that TV went on sale. It may have been disabled for Ireland/UK, Ireland officially selected MPEG-4 in the months before that TV went on sale.

In the UK Freeview uses MPEG-2 video compression, FreeviewHD uses MPEG-4. The first FreeviewHD (MPEG-4) products didn't go on sale until early 2010 in the UK.

Adjusting the aerial won't make any difference if you already get clear audio for the TV channels as the audio and video data is bundled together on the same frequency.

According to this, it should do the SD Saorview channels, but not the HD ones.

Failing that and using the information posted by Apogee buying a new TV may be your next option.

Incredibly useful info thanks Apogee! Not exactly good news for this old tv but it does clear a lot of things up:D

As The Cush says buying a new tv might be my next option.

Both models you list are on the Saorview approved list with the H5000 being the newer model.

Not sure if you can record with them, there is a USB port for HDD/memory stick and 3 on-timers but no mention of recording.

VERY useful site thanks - I might hold off so, I'd like to be able to record the saorview channels.

That TV was sold in Ireland but was NOT suitable for the purpose for which it was sold, i.e. watching Irish TV.
It is less than 6 years old so you have a claim against the retailer as not fit for purpose under the Sale of Goods Act. Take it back. Others have been successful see earlier threads on this. Watty has mentioned this numerous times. Where are you Watty?

I bought the TV from Amazon so I'd imagine I've no comeback:(

I changed the setup country to France and did a rescan, it does pick up the channels again but with sound and no picture, I can even see the program and now/next info, very frustrating:mad: At least if I didn't work at all it probably wouldn't be so bad!
