Dublin City Marathon in 80 Days

    I wanted to get people's opinions on the feasibility of running the marathon with only 80 days to train.
    I am 27, reasonably fit, not overweight.

    Is there any plans out there that would suit my timeline? All help would be greatly appreciated.

    None recently. I used to run a bit. About a year ago I ran 10k 2-3 times a week.

    But in the last six months, I have given up cardio training for strength weight training.

    Well you can easily complete a marathon if you're willing to walk a lot of it and be out on the course for 5+ hours.
    Any novice plans I've seen will have you running up to 16-18-20 miles in a few weeks in one go along with at least 3 other days of running. That's probably not very realistic for you as you'll likely end up injured.
    Someone might know of a walk/run plan you could follow. I found one but can't link atm. It's by Christine Luff if you google her and "run walk marathon training schedule". See if you could jump into that plan.
    You should get out today and do a bit of jogging/walking and then again in a day or two and see how you go.
    Or just build up slowly for next year which is probably the most sensible advice.

    The time limit for completing the marathon is 7.5 hours. So most people should be able to finish the marathon.

    Of course, 80 days is loads of time.

    I dont know if there is a dedicated plan out there but a search on google will probably throw up something. Its definitely possible and not rocket science to put a sensible plan together yourself just do the research. The best and most rewarding way to run a marathon is by putting in a lot of dedicated work over a minimum of a year but if you just want to tick a box it can quite easily be done in 11 weeks. You will suffer more during and after the race the less work you put into it and it will take longer to recover the less you have prepared but its unlikely youl do long term damage.

    Sure the marathon is only 26.2 miles.

    Phileas Fogg can get all the way around the world in 80 days :cool:
