Where to buy my first car in Dublin from a dealer? €3500-4000

Such a daunting experience. And looks like nothing is happening quickly.

I want to buy from a dealer as I don't know anything about cars and don't trust buying one private sale.

But I can't seem to find anything decent in my price range - €3500-4000.

Got the luas out to Kylemore and looked around a few places but didn't see anything suitable.
We live north side and all the places near us like NCR are all out of our price range.

Where would you recommend as a good place/car dealer ship that has a lot of cheaper used cars? It's a catch 22 as a lot of places are far out and you'd near a car to drive to them.

Been looking at hatchback petrol manual cars - Ford Fiesta or Focus. Would be open to a Toyota - anything in our price range. Trying to avoid the ubiquitous Peugeot 206/207 as haven't heard great things about them.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Buy private. It'll cost you less money and if you know what to expect it's not too bad. And buying from a dealer is not a guarantee of getting a perfect car. It can be just as treacherous as buying private.

If you know nothing about cars, there are resources online(such as here!) that you can use to help. Read the Used Car guide on here, use sites such as HonestJohn and WhatCar? Use websites such the AA or cartell to check a cars history(owners, valid NCT etc)

Enquire about finding a trusted mechanic in your area for him to inspect any car you're interested in buying. Don't take a sellers word for it that a car "needs nothing".

For your budget, a Toyota Corolla is your best bet. Buy a 1.4 hatchback with a Luna spec. 3500-4000 should fetch around a 2004-2005 example and they are excellent cars in every way.

Ask anything you're unsure about here and someone will give you an answer.

Thanks for that, I guess that by looking at private sellers it opens up the market a bit more.

Haven't seem many Corollas available in my price range but will keep an eye out.

I've seen a few Fiat Puntos, like this one, http:// cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/fiat-punto-1-4-litre-petrol/6943010 - might have a look. It just means the car will be a bit newer - 2007.

Those Punto's are grand but resale value is poor and they aren't very desirable to the general public. If you want to keep it for a while then great. They are good for what they are, cheap A to B motoring. I'm driving a 00 model that cost me 400 quid and runs perfectly for example. Grand little car but not without issues, but they are cheap to fix if needed.

    Here's a Corolla with the more desirable Luna spec;

Ask for the car to be freshly NCT'd if you're interested in buying first.

Plenty of Terra models out there too but the Luna is a better place to sit.
