    Hi Folks …..
Hoping for some advice /encouragement here …

I’ve been on dating sites on and off for the last few years with limited success … Which doesn’t really bother me!! I’m happy just dating from time to time … However, I I suppose deep down, I would hope that one of these dates would lead to something long term.

Anyway, was recently contacted by a much younger guy.He was up front at the start by stating that he was only looking for something very casual.Initially I said thanks but no thanks but then we got chatting and now I’m thinking about meeting him !! For years I’ve been sensible and done the right thing … Is it wrong for me to be a bit wreckless as I approach 40 ??

As long as he's over the age of consent, and you're happy with it just being casual, then go for it! Have fun :)

So long as you are happy with casual and only casual, then go for it! Don't pretend to yourself that he might be interested in a relationship once he meets you, sleeps with you, etc. He already told you what he wants (and doesn't want) so just keep that in mind. And have fun! :)

The fact that he is younger is not the issue here but that you are looking for different things. Don't assume because you are still chatting that he has changed his mind. Dating a younger man is great as long as you both want the same thing. I dated and lived with a man 10 years younger then me for 7 years, we had a great time until he changed his mind about having kids (he wanted them I didn't).

Thank for the replies folks ...

I don't think I'm concerned about the fact that we both want different things ... I don't really want anything too serious with a guy that's only left college. I think my nervousness stems from the casual-ness of it all - I think that there is an expectation that this may escalate to a physical relationship quicker that it may with guys I normally date around my own age. I've had casual flings in the past but it's been over 15 years since I had one of these so I'm not sure how comfortable I am with it anymore.... Part of me is saying "to hell with it and go off an have a bit of fun"" and the other part is not to be so ridiculous that I shouldn't be carrying on with a younger fella at my age" :P
Talking about over thinking Eh :D

    It's up to you.

I am not in your generation.

I don't really know what your peers would be thinking etc. But if he is over age ( I don't know how much younger he is).

I don't do casual but if that is what you are comfortable I don't see why are you worried.

I don't consider five years younger or older to be an age gap so I am assuming he might be in his early twenties for you to be asking? Once he is over age I think it's ok. His family might be a bit off with it but I think if you are fair and respectful it should be ok.

Just so long as you are both ok with it.:)

Greengirl if you want to go for it.

I probably don't put this well but just give yourself a pass. Providing you both know what it is and where its going you'll be grand.

Just don't beat yourself up at the same time. Life is for living - Live it ;)

Go for it then. There is nothing really standing in your way. Dating a younger guy can have its advantages. :P

That is probably a safe assumption but if you are not comfortable being physical too quickly tell him.
