Lost Log Book - No proof of ownership

    Hi

    Hope someone can help

I am currently in the process of moving house and have a car and I need to change it over to my partner who is going to use it. I have lost the log book I went to the station to get the RF134 form stamped but they said I needed proof of ownership and now for the life of me I can't find the NCT cert or my Insurance Cert (both disks are in the window) is there anything else I can use to get proof of ownership to get the stamp to get the log book?

I had a quick look through form and seen something about a statutory form? Would this apply to me?

Could you not get a copy of your last insurance cert/s from your insurers? This might suffice as proof of ownership as it would show the insured (you) and the named owner of the car (you) or who's name it was registered in (you). Also, the motor tax office should have some record of the last registered owner (you) as there was no change of ownership made.

Well insurer is charging €25 for the copy of the cert,

I have an online facility I can see what I will retrieve from that!

Will ring the motor tax office and see what they say

    Thanks for the help.

Are you trying to get a new logbook issued in your partners name or a replacement log book in your name? If it's the latter and you're the registered owner, you just need the form signed and witnessed by the Gardai. If it's the former, try the latter and then do a transfer of ownership.

OP, your thread is a bit confusing. You initially said you lost the log book, now your saying you are trying to get the log book in your name.

Who is the car's log book currently registered to? You or the previous owner?

    Sorry hope this is clearer,

I own the car it is registered in my name - I have a lost the log book - I tried to get an RF134 form stamped but was advised I need proof of ownership - I am currently moving house and can't find documents i.e. NCT Cert Ins Cert to prove I own the car - Ins company charging €25 to get copy cert which I would like to avoid paying.

I thought I needed the log book in my hand to make the change to my partners name.

Can the guards not look up the owner of the car on their system? They're quite able (and willing) to do it quickly at the roadside. Then you would just need proof of identity, such as a passport or driving licence. There is nothing on the R134 form to suggest you need to prove ownership of the car. It would be pointless since it goes back to the registered address anyway.

Yeah well I thought this but the guard said I needed something I will ask again though,

    Thanks for all the help.

Bring ID and proof of address, they're witnessing you making a declaration, not making a declaration of ownership.

Go to a different station (if possible).
Otherwise try and call in when there's a more amenable Guard (in other words, 'not a tool') at the desk.

Technically the only proof of ownership is the VLC. All an NCT cert, or similar, proves is that you owned said vehicle at some time previously.

Shouldn't the Gardai have access to a database containing information of each registered cars owner? therefore if you show you licence and you picture, name, address and DOB match up, and that should be good enough?

Why dont you just apply for a €12 replacement log book and then ammend it as neccessary?
You hardly need the log book to apply for a lost/ replacement do you? Jaysis.

The garda is wrong in this case. He should be just witnessing you declare that the ligbook has been lost. He is nit required to form any opinion as to whether you are in fact the owner.

That's what the OP is trying to do....but the big bold Guard wasn't listening that day in Templemore when the teacher was explaining the RF134 Form.;)

Could you not just add your partner to the insurance?
