Eg you work an 8 hour day, what % of the 8 hours do you actually work?
For this example you can exclude toilet breaks as we all gotta take em.

I'd say 90% the toilet breaks take up the other 10%

    About 10 or 12% I'd say. About 20-25 hours out of 168.

So far this year, hovering around 20%, on average over the past 4 years I'm still well above 100% (actually documented) so not a single ****'s been given

In my last job it was fairly laid back - once the work was done there was no hassle. In my current job you've to fill out weekly time sheets (for client billing purposes) and there is a much more rigid attitude towards working. A lot of staff stay up to 3 hours after the end of the day just to get work finished.

The problem I find with this is that it then becomes the norm, and it becomes expected of you. If everyone downed tools at the same time and walked out the door together the management would eventually realize that only x amount is being done each day.... and maybe too much is being expected of everyone.

As it is currently this is not apparent as people spend hours finishing stuff off after the end of each day. With no reward.

It depends, sometimes it's all go and I'm flat out and putting in overtime, other times there's nothing doing or I'm waiting on other people / machines to finish tasks before I can proceed.

I'm self-employed… sometimes I even work while sleeping.

I often dream about work stuff and occasionally come up with my best ideas lol

I have a Grand Prix-style multichannel datalogger up my hole - I look like a fcuked-up Borg, come to think of it - and any time I'm not even thinking about work I get an electric current across the testicles. But the secret is to learn to enjoy it. Go Pavlov!!

I'm working in IT at the moment.

My entire day is waiting on other people to be less **** at their own jobs. I've been here since January, working 9-5. I say I actually work 2 hours, 3 at a push.

Essentially subsidising the company. Does this company give 3 hours free service to its clients? No, the free work done swells profits which swell shareholders or senior management bonuses. It's just idiocy to do work for free.

    You're preaching to the choir!

It's a 'professional' industry i'm in and a lot of the staff are still in training and/or recently qualified. They are young, ambitious and inexperienced. Essentially they want to make a good impression and sadly think that this behavior is the norm.

I get this you are always 'on' but productive wise I would say I am 60% /75% but that can vary a lot.

The most abused word in the modern workplace is professional. It's old meaning was someone who did something for pay. The modern meaning is closer to a projection of confidence and a craven desire to ingratiate.

Working in IT. I try to multi-task a lot but at some point there's too much.

So a few times a day, I have multiple machines installing something or loading something...I tend to answer e-mails in that time but can have time left over. Usually spend it on Boards and reading the news! Right now I have four Machines on the go. Building two servers, a VM installing a 14GB package and another one copying down some big zip file onto it. Could try and do more but I've found I make a mess of things if I try to do too much.

I'd go with 60%-80% but in reality...my work days can range from 7am-5pm to 7am-1am...meh. F'kin mugs game
