I completed 2 years in college on BTEA and I plan on doing my 3rd year.During the summer I claim Jobseeker's Allowance. This year however, my means (my P/T job and my husband's income) are calculated as being over the allowance limit.Ok, I can live with having no SW over the summer but will this affect my BTEA claim in September? Any help greatly appreciated!!

I think your only allowed two years on btea, for universities it might be slightly different. Have you heard of bursaries? There done by some credit unions.

As long as its progression i.e level 5-6. I don't think they care how long

I can't remember if it was BTEA or the grant but one of them those not allow from progression anymore unless the course is an addon for the original one. I.E 3 years electronic engineering level 7 and one year add on level 8 electronic systems.

However OP the BTEA is not means tested so if you were on it before and you are progressing in the same course I believe you will be able to get it.

As far as I know BTEA is only means tested on your partners income, any income that you make during the college year or during the summer holidays doesn't get calculated. Assuming that your partners income hasn't changed then you should get BTEA again in September as normal.

If you're worried about it then its worth calling the BTEA Head Office and asking them to clarify the situation - just for your own peace of mind. They're very helpful over the phone.

You will return to the amount of BTEA you were in receipt of prior to working for the Summer. You come under the old regulations.

Thank you for all the replies. After trailing through the welfare website I found what I wanted.Once you are progressing on the same course regardless of getting jobseekers during the summer your BTEA will be reinstated.Phew! Thanks again!
