2006 onwards Civic saloon is not far off the same size as the 2003 to 2009 Accord. 1.8 I-Vtec engine is pretty good on fuel too. Should be able to pick up a 2006 for around €5k these days.

S60 ? 2.0 turbo, spend less to buy and maybe keep a little for petrol money.

I'm bias, but a Subaru Legacy is worth a look.
I picked up a nice '07 one owner estate earlier in the year well within your budget.
Can't fault it so far and great to drive.

Would he stretch his budget slightly - €5950 (probably get a bit off). Only three doors I know but easily hold adults in the back on occasion.

Almost seems too good to be true, only 52k miles :eek: would think its a scam only its from a dealer

Yeh but if it's for occasional use then he may compromise as he still has four seats.

There is nothing fun about the auld 318s, IS200s and Subaru Legarseys mentioned so far.

A Saab 9-3 Aero might fit the bill. Actually a MK5 Golf GTI is well within budget if he's now up to 8.5k.
