Audi A3 Won't Start Fault Code 01312

    Hi

    I have a problem with a 1997 1.6 Audi A3.

The car wouldn't start the other day, turns over, but won't fire. I plugged it in and got a fault code 01312-Powertrain Data Bus 37-00 Faulty. I have no idea what this means.

I unplugged the wiring loom from the ecu and then plugged it back in again and this "sorted" the problem, the car ran fine for a couple of days.

Yesterday it failed to start twice, on both occasions unplugging the ecu "fixed" the problem. But today it wouldn't start at all and the unplugging trick isn't doing it this time.

Anyone have any idea on whats going on here? Or what a"power train data bus" is and where its located in the car?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Thanks, yeah I saw that earlier.

I don't know what a databus is, or where its located, so can't check its wiring connectors, or the control module.

The powertrain databus refers to the CANBus interface between the ECU, the transmission controller, SRS system, and bugger-knows-what else. Sounds to me like a job for a pro.
