Howdy. I think you should give some idea of budget, even a rough guide. Otherwise you'll get all sorts of offers. Also, give an indication of size bike required, or failing that, your height. Good luck with the search.

Good advice never really thought of that...

Probably 700-800 bracket and hopefully get it on bike to work scheme to lower the cost.
Im 6' height, 32" inner leg,

Wait, are you looking to buy second-hand from someone on the forum or from a shop?

New- only new to boards so not sure if its in right section- it would only allow me to put in cycling adverts or training section

Moved it to the main forum.

Have you checked what retailers your employer will let you use in the BtW scheme?

that kind of budget will get you a very decent bike.
    One thing for clarification
Are you saying that budget for your own spend of that budget on the bike to work scheme ?

the bike scheme will give you either half or a fifth back depending on your tax bracket so if half a 1k spend will result in circa 500 from you if you get me.

Any bike shop in dublin as far as aware.
Just need invoice aparantly, but unfortunatly it comes out of wages at one go rather than over the year hence the low budget.
    Max 700-800

Yeah i get ya, no max i can prob go on total cost is 700-800 so i only have around 300-400 of my own cash input im on 52 bracket so i suppose u could say my cash budget is 300-400

CAAD8 is very high quality frame, but 2300 is a really inferior groupset (meaning gear shifters, brakes, front derailer and rear derailer). Shimano 2300 is probably the most basic groupset that you can buy on the market right now. In 2014, Shimano's Claris groupset basically replaced 2300, and for your budget I would look for either the Claris or Sora groupset. Sora is the next step up on Shimano's ladder, followed by Tiagra.

If you can stretch to 850 (RRP), and can use the Giant Superstore in your BtW scheme, then the 2014 Giant Defy 3 would be a great choice I think. The Defy is also a very good quality frame, very well regarded as an entry level road bike, and comes with the 2014 Sora groupset.

Would agree with the above poster. For a budget of 700 euro you should be able to land a Sora groupset. I would find it hard to settle for even the Claris groupset for 700 euro.

Have a friend who has the Defy 3 and highly recommends it. He uses it for commuting and a few longer trips. With new season approaching you may be able to get a deal on the 2014 models before 2015s arrive in.

You could do a lot worse than get a Giant Defy 2nd hand, 6k kms on mine and no issue apart from 2 broken spokes, with the bike to work scheme producing many expensive clothes horses you'll pick up one for 400, possibly 350, be money well spent

There's credence to this. A lot of good intention goes into buying a bike on the b2w scheme yet they never get used and are eventually sold on. There are some fine deals out there. For the price you'd pay for a semi decent boardman you'd get a better spec bike second hand.

Cheers lads, thanks for your views,
I would be a little worried about buyin second hand as i would not have any warranty or the like.
Also the seller could be saying the bike has a flux capacitor and to be honest i wouldnt be able to tell the difference,
