I'm a big fan of horses who can dictate races from the front and looking at some of his flat wins he was up there with the best. Northumberland Plate, Chester Cup and Galway Hurdle all difficult handicaps and Overturn just burned off all the opposition with his style of running. Setting the fractions is a very hard ability to master. Some can go too quick and are vulnerable to closers so one can only look in awe at horses who can master it time after time.

There doesn't seem to be any horse like him at the moment (to my knowledge anyway).

I should have thought of him actually but he hasn't beaten anything (yet). That close 2nd by Gemix shows he may be a bit vulnerable and I doubt he could win the staying handicaps races Overturn could. I do hope I'm proven wrong though.

He was vastly underrated as a hurdler, and shouldn't have been used as a pacemaker for Peddlers Cross in that Champion..

The owners had some fun with him..

    Has he been retired?

A few months back Mc Cain said he was back in work so hadn't been retired at that stage so i'd say he's still likely to make a comeback barring injury. Doubt he'll be anything like the horse he was though. Peddlers cross back in training too which i'm slightly surprised at because his last few runs he looked like a horse gone at the game.
