Hi, unfortunately failed test today. Need licence for possible new job. Re applied soon after with option to take cancellations. Any one know waiting times for this or had experience with this situation?

They more often than not have you wait 3 weeks to give you an opportunity to work on the things that caused you to fail. I'd someone resit in Navan after 12 days though.
Call up in the morning, around half 9 and ask

If you accept a cancellation date, be careful of the time if there are schools on the test route. Doing your test near a school, when parents are dropping off and picking up their kids, is to be avoided if possible. It is one of the reasons why a lot of cancellations at 9am and 2.30-3pm come up in the first place. People don't want to be doing their test when roads are clogged with lots of kiddies and parents parking wherever they want. Was told that by a couple of driving instructors.

Rang them early next morning and got a cancellation for late next week. Just to remember my faults and pass this time.

No reason to fear the school times (plus, kids are off atm). Did mine when schools were emptying, in Raheny centre so rakes of kids and mommies parked all over the place in several spots on the route. Even had a bit of a laugh with the tester about it (Belgrove is a nightmare). The thing is, if you just drive appropriately and are ultra aware of everything going on.. There's no problem. If anything it should have you so focused on what's going on that you're not worried about how your driving is and you'll just drive very naturally ;)
