Which brand new car to get

I recently posted about my folks buying a new Nissan juke but now they've decided that it's a car that they want mainly for boot space to fit the golf clubs.

They know nothing about cars and are adamant that it has to be a diesel even though it's mostly town driving that they do.

They were looking at an Insignia today and they seem to like it, it was about 32 grand (not sure of the engine) and that's at the high end of their budget

Does anyone have any other recommendations and price of car?

    Cheers for advice

    What about a Hyundai ix35?

Or it's sister the Kia Sportage:

That Hyundai looks nice alright, any idea if it would fit golf clubs comfortably?

If the golf clubs are more important than the "brand new" bit, ten get a car designed around golf clubs such as this one.......

In all fairness somebody looking at diesel Nissan Jukes and Opel Insignias is hardly going to be interested in a petrol V8 coupe.

OP, the best thing to do is get your parents to start visiting dealerships and bring the golf clubs with them for measuring.

This might be a silly question op but surely you can fit a set of golf clubs in a juke?

My folks the same, insisted on a diesel even though they only do town driving. 2010 car and has had dpf problems already.

If golf clubs fitting in are the primary concern in spending up to €32,000 on a vehicle I would suggest the following:

Loads of space for 20 sets of golf clubs and they can keep 30k+ in the bank. It would be a better use of cash which they seem set to spend unwisely. Also modern diesels + town only driving = not good. Get a petrol. 2 sets of golf clubs will fit in almost any car so having this as the sole criteria for selection seems, and lets be charitable here, silly.

Honda Accord. Won't give any trouble. Guarantee it.

Surely got to be other criteria when buying a brand new car other than does it fit a set of golf clubs?

Try telling that to a couple in their mid 60's

Nice one, they could also get the golf buggy in there as well.

There current car has had no problem with being a diesel and town driving.

That's what I would have thought but I don't think you can.

They have had there car since 2011 and have had no problems with the dpf. Perhaps its gets cleared out when on long spins?

OP, I'm not saying they are completely faultless but my father has been driving a diesel Kia almost exclusively around town for the last couple of years and has never had a dpf issue with it. I'd look into the ix35 and Sportage possibly as they are basically the same car and the warranties will negate a lot of the worries of buying a diesel for town use.

Op, may I make 2 recommendations to your list, a Mazda CX5 and a Skoda Yeti.

I can't comment too much on the Mazda but a family member has just bought one and it's quiet nice.

My mother however has a petrol Yeti 1.2TSI and I find it great. Even better it has no dpf to worry about. Loads of space for golf clubs, nice high driving position, very easy to see out of and park and it's been reliable so far. Don't let the 1.2T engine put you off, it's matted to a 6 speed gearbox and is nippy for most driving but does become sluggish after 120kmh.

I also wouldn't be against recommending a diesel one.
