Conflicting information: Travel from UK to France [Passport question]

I'm an Irish Passport holder, but my passport is away with the DVLA in the UK for verification purposes.

I have a UK drivers license.

Will this be sufficient to travel across from UK to France and Germany? I assumed Shengan countries let you across borders no questions asked, but I found online that the UK isn't part of this agreement.

Getting into the UK isn't an issue for me, as I have my UK Ministry of Defence ID card, but will I get into france with a drivers license?
