Applying for a job with a job

I have a job in a nice school. I have been there a number of years but don't have a CID. I was covering leaves and learning support and there was a break in my service. I will probably qualify for CID in a few years. There is a job advertised which I would like. It is in a better location and involves teaching only one of my subjects which suits me. However, we all know that sometimes jobs are gone and even if they are not there is a risk that I won't get it. How do I approach this with my current principal? He would have to be a referee and probably wouldn't thank me if I let him down at this late stage. It would also be quite hard to explain to him why I want to move location- it isn't close to home or anything, it is just in a city as opposed to a town. Could I ring the principal of the advertising school and explain the situation. Would it be acceptable to ask him not to contact my current principal unless I was seriously being considered for the job? Also could I ask how stable the advertised RPT is likely to be or would that be rude? Closing date is soon so I'd appreciate any input please.

Course you can those things of the principal, its actually quite common. Just make sure you tell your principal about it as you cant predict when they might make contact

Am afraid I will burn my bridges with current principal if I have no real reason to move other than wanting to be in a city as opposed to a town and teach only one subject. Will ring advertising principal in the morning and ask a few questions before contacting my own principal. Not sure if I should be gambling on chance of a CID but also not sure if I want a CID in the are I currently work in. Decisions!! Thanks.

The only reason to leave that is acceptable to P is location or prospects. In this case, it sounds like the latter tho your current p might tell you a cid is coming your way if u hang in there

You could apply and just write references will be provided on request on your cv or ask them not to contact your referees unless they are offering the job. Theyre not supposed to contact them till after the interview but they definitely do.

Got rid of legally comment as was talking nonsense

Don't think there is any legal part. We always do it before final interview so it can discussed with rest of panel

I applied for a job, and I have a job. Told principal about another job and would he be happy to be my referee. He said yes and no questions were asked as to why I wanted to leave.
Didn't even get an interview after all that!!
Other staff in my school have recently done the same.

Rang advertising school today. Principal was quite open and suggested that the hours are not likely to be safe for more than a year. I thanked her for her time and said I would stay put. Thanks for the advice. Wondering bleuberrypie were you kept in your school after asking fora reference and not getting an interview? Were you RPT or covering a leave?

I have a cid and so do all the others who asked the principal.
I am not going anywhere for the time being.
