    It might not be the ports themselves that have gone though. Could be anything in the chain - controller, capacitor, etc. If your laptop has the ports on a separate daughterboard, I'd maybe look at replacing the whole thing.

    Nah its definitely the ports, the plastic from the 'tongue' part in the middle has partly chipped away and one or two of the pins are bent back.
