Hi I'm looking for advice, im looking at houses to buy, and have found one I really love at a good price the only thing is we have been told the house is built with just a 9 inch cavity block and dry lined, when we heard it first we decided to forget about the house, but after talking to a neighbor of the house next to it they said they have had no problems with the house and has no problem heating it, so we are just looking for advice on what kind of problems could arise?

I think you should look at getting a survey completed first and foremost. A chartered building surveyor will give you the advice needed. You can search for a local surveyor at http://www.scsi.ie/surveyors/surveyors_search

I'd suggest that most of the houses built between around 1980 and around 2005 (developer built ones) are built the same way (i.e. dry-lined hollow block).

hi mine is the same but the thing you will need to remember is that in most cases you will end up renovating and changing rooms as you go over time. As you do this you can increase the insulation levels by introducing thermal liners or the like to the inner leaf and make your way around the house that way. I have being in my house for 10 years now and most of the rooms are done without any major hassle as we made our way around the house.
