So I'm Flying to faro on this aircraft

I'm a novice plane enthusiast and have always flown on run of the mill 3seats+3 seat aircraft

Question is I believe this ei490 to be 2+4+2 seats wide is that correct ?

I'm fascinated that this might be a bigger plane than I'm used too.

    Sorry for the novice question

They run the A330 to Faro & Spain during the summer in between doing transatlantic as they can fill the planes.

The planes also come in very early in the morning. Not many people want to do transatlantic so early so they send them on some short haul to get them back in time for sending them back across the atlantic.

This route is usually flown by either a A330 or a A321 (or rarely a A320), in the case of the first, yes it is setup on a 2-4-2 configuration but in the case of the other two it will be a 3-3 configuration.

Yes it's 7.30am flight out of dub can't wait now. Wohooo

Is there any difference in the whole experience flying A330..

Coming home it's ei 493 which is standard 3+3..

Feel like I'm going on an A380 haha

Tue and Thur for the summer it's an A330. Treat yourself for a comfy seat and pay the extra if available.

You'll have slightly more legroom and a personal tv in the headrest with on demand TV & Movies. I believe you can upgrade to a Business Class seat for a price. Will still be the normal economy service though.

I know all the A330's flying transatlantic have Wi-Fi avialable to purchase in economy. Do they activate it on the short haul routes with them too?

The A330 has a business class cabin but Aer Lingus don't operate a business class service on your route.

Rather than leave the Premier cabin empty you can pay a supplement for one of the bigger/comfier seats. If you log into 'my booking' on the Aer Lingus website, you should be able to check the supplement for your booking.

Think its an extra €70, well worth it in my opinion for the short hop, you can always say you sat in Aer Lingus Business class then also

    +1

There aren't many opportunities to get into the pointy end of the plane for €70.

OP, if you're a novice plane enthusiast I'm fairly certain it would be €70 well spent.

can't upgrade as there's no choice to change seats
There's no diagrams of the Aeroplane going out as we already booked 😠

You wouldnt be getting that kind of seat on Ryanair!

Obviously not, they dont offer business class, its a one configuration cabin, where as Aer Lingus is two cabin configuration.

Just to re-emphasise - it's an A330 only on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the first week of September.

It's a normal short-haul aircraft on all the other days of the week (either an A320 or an A321).

You'll really enjoy it. I remember going on my first widebody back in 2007 and I could not believe the room inside, it was fantastic. Just the general size of the aircraft amazed me. You'll have a ball, take lots of photos!

Well back from the holidays and all I can say is I'm flying are lingus from now on.
Hardley a blip in the air either way very comfortable at 39000ft- 500mph

As for the a330 it was great having the headrest entertainment to pass the time so I'm eager to get back on it.

You might have to book yourself on a transatlantic flight for more of that treatment now! I flew SNN-JFK a few days ago to get to Atlanta and that was on a Boeing 757-200. Not widebody like the A330 but a nice aircraft all the same. Delta have the interiors set up really nicely with good seats, big screens in the back of the headrests (bigger than I had seen before) and some nice lighting effects in the cabin.

Hard to beat a widebody though...space is space!

You might try Rome next year. Rumour mill around work is that the 330 will be doing the early morning rotation.
