Hey any open swimmers out there, any of you swam in Lough Bray in Wicklow? Thinking of heading up this weekend for an unambitious dip, any good access spots where family/dog could sit down and have a picnic while I freeze my nuts off? Upper or Lower lake the best?

    Thank you!

    EGS

Was just about to post about lough bray! Stumbled across the lower lake while out walking earlier. There was one guy in swimming in a wetsuit while I was there, looked nice and calm though a little cold. I wish I had had my togs with me. Really nice place to swim I'd say, but hopefully someone who's actually been in can shed some more light for everyone!

There's lots of hidden rocks, so go easy searching a swim path. Don't know how used you are to swimming in lakes, but they are generally colder than the sea, and will have less buoyancy.

I swam Lough Bray years ago, dumped my clothes on a rock and got in, and two goats came down and started eating my shoes! :D Enjoy!

It's cold... that's all I can say but pleasant spot to swim. Been years though!

Deadly, thanks. That's hilarious about the goats. Any other interesting fresh water spots within half hour of Dublin city?
