My Old Seiko..

This is my old Seiko something or other. I bought it on ebay several years ago for the princely sum of €50. It came from India, which I know is always a bad start, but I loved the look of the face. I haven't worn in it a good while but when I picked it up just now I could feel the rotor moving, and indeed it started to work almost straight away!. I don't know much about it as an over zealous seller has all but polished off the serial numbers etc. I had a good look before and I think it dates from late 60's to late 70's? The inner bezel no longer rotates but it flies back and the stop watch works. I'm thinking about getting it fixed up. though I know this would not be an economic restoration, that guy in the UK that specialises in 'lost causes' might be the best option. Does anyone know anything more about it?, cheers.

Timemark in Dublin are authorised agents for Seiko.
I have used them from time to time and found them good.
Last year I was quoted appx €100 to sort out a Seiko that I bought back in1980, they would essentially replace the entire mechanism for that and give 12 months guarantee. I didnt go ahead with it as the wife bought me a present of a Victorinox. http://www.timemark.ie/
I would suggest emailing them a picture of your watch and request a quote for an overhaul.

The internal bezel is a tachymeter scale, so I doubt it would ever have rotated. Looks like the glass and case are a bit scratched and a polish with maybe a new crystal would sort a lot out. I'm sure you will be guided in the right direction.

I wore it to work and when servicing the car etc. so there are some deep scratches to the crystal. I was told the inner should rotate with the crown at the first notch, but now that you mention it, that wouldn't be much use. This guy has a few of them:

Maybe I should have a lash it this myself! Wibbs will be pleased to learn that it was worn on a Nato from time to time.

I have a Seiko 6139 (mine's a 6002 or Pogue) and can confirm the inner bezel does rotate on mine when turning the crown.

hope that helps.. great watch and would look superb fully restored.

Thanks for your reply jkb, I've been googling it, and it looks like it's a common failure point on this type of watch. Mine has the water resistant back marking, meaning 72-78. If I got a parts watch with all the functions still intact it would probably be better than the one I want to get fixed up! Maybe I can do without this feature. I have emailed a UK company for a quote, and if I get the courage to whip the back off it myself I'll take plenty of pictures. Mind you, I should figure out the macro function on my phone camera before attempting to fix a watch! A mate of mine does a bit with them, so he might be able to point me in the right direction. Does the bezel rotate with the crown fully in, or at what position?

    Hi,

True enough, there seem to be a selection on ebay at the moment.

The bezel rotates when the crown is in it's normal position. As you're probably aware, half press in the crown to change the date and full press in to change the day. Pull out the crown to change the time.

    hope that helps

Aye, I figured out the day/date setting. I went on to ebay and bought a new Seiko crystal for it...then I ended up buying a 6139 7070 in good working condition for the same as paid for the crystal! There seems to be a minor cult around these watches, as there are any amount of parts still available. I'm going to wear the watch to work tomorrow in case it doesn't survive the guntering. One last proud outing shall we say.
